Synopsis: Based on the popular book by Frances Mayes. Frances (Diane Lane) is a writer living in San Francisco who suffers from a sudden and hurtful divorce. Finding herself depressed and at loose ends, she takes the advice of her friend Patti (Sandra Oh) and takes a trip to Tuscan, Italy, where she falls in love with a run-down villa for sale. Buying it on an impulse, she begins to slowly rebuild both the villa and her life.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Longing for love, Frances happens to meet a charming man named Marcello (Raoul Bova). He invites her to dine with his family. After dinner they are walking on the beach together when Frances hears a tiny mew. Reaching underneath a chair she finds a gray and white kitten, which Marcello says wants to go home with her.
The two make love that night and in the next scene we see Frances happily elated in her own home while the kitten is lapping milk from a bowl. We see the young cat a couple of other times later in the film; sitting on the desk while Frances works and also lying on a cushion in the main room.
Final Mewsings: She may have lost a lover, but she gained a cat.
