Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Based on the book by Delia Owens. Kya Clark (Daisy Edgar-Jones), a reclusive girl living alone in a North Carolina marshland, faces those who have ostracized her when she is accused of murder.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): When Mya is placed in her jail cell she spots the courthouse’s resident brown tabby cat named Sunday Justice, who walks between the bars into her cell.

Feeling cut off from the world, Kya calls the cat to come join her on her cot.

She settles down with Sunday Justice, petting the sleeping cat until her lawyer, Tom Milton (David Strathairn), pays her a visit.

During the trial, Kya spots Sunday Justice sitting on a chair in the corner.

She recalls petting the cat and the loose fur coming off on her hands as the lawyers discuss the potential longevity of fibers on clothing.

Sunday Justice is only seen one more time being petted by Kya in her cell.

The cat actor(s) was uncredited in the film. The head animal trainer was David L. Sousa with Charlotte Woertler assisting for Birds and Animals Unlimited. The cat character’s name, Sunday Justice, was the name of an African man who worked as the author’s cook.

Final Mewsings: Cats give us comfort in our darkest hours.
