Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: The Alexander family, a widower with his new wife and teenaged daughter, move into a new home in a suburban neighborhood hoping for a fresh start only to have eerie things happen to them.
Featured Feline: The daughter, Hannah (Erin Moriarity) owns an orange and white tabby cat named Monty. Monty is first seen in his carrier as the family enters their new home.
Hannah takes Monty to her new room but he doesn’t want to come out of the carrier.
Later Monty is staring at the wall where Hannah’s stepmom (Nadine Velazquez) has hung some family photos. Monty keeps staring at the wall and meowing.
Hannah’s father John (Michael Vartan) passes by and tells Monty it’s okay.
Monty growls at the wall and then runs away.
The only other time Monty is seen in the film is when Hannah finds he has been locked outside. He is pawing at the glass sliding door.
Monty was played by cat actors Mr. Krinkles and Cheeto who work for Birds and Animals Unlimited. The character’s fate is left up in the air since he is sometimes heard but never seen again. We are given hope that Monty may have survived when an animated Monty is seen sitting on the end title credit.
Final Mewsings: We will hold out hope that Monty lived.
