This review contains a Kitty Carnage Warning!
Synopsis: Rheinhardt (Paul Newman) is a cynical, drunken opportunist who lands a job at a radio station with programming that pushes a nefarious agenda. Challenging Rheinhardt’s lack of sensibilites is Geraldine (Joanne Woodward), a down and out hooker whom Rheinhardt takes under his wing, and bleeding heart social worker Rainey (Anthony Perkins) who uncovers the truth behind the station.
Kitty Cameos: When Rheinhardt befriends her, Geraldine is living in a run down apartment across from a young woman named Philomene (Cloris Leachman) who has an obvious love of animals. She has a cockatiel on her shoulder and some goldfish in a bowl, as well as a gray tabby and white cat resting in a nearby shopping cart.
Kitty Carnage Warning! When Rheinhardt takes Geraldine to the apartment he’s rented they enter the courtyard in time to observe two tabby cats, one brown, the other ginger and white, engaged in a nasty fight. The fight between the cats is all too real with fur flying.
The ginger and white cat can be seen walking away in the background as Rheinhardt and Geraldine bump into Rainey on the stairs.
Later a meowing cat can be heard in a hallway in which Rainey is walking but no actual cat is visible.
Final Mewsings: We would fill our shopping cart with cats if we could!
Many thanks to Aaron Shuster for letting us know about the cats in this film.
