Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: The Mutant Academy is under attack while anti-Mutant sentiment from the general public is on the rise. Someone is behind it all with evil intentions and so the X-Men need to band together to get to the truth.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): At one point in the film Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and various other students escape and hide out at the home of Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) whose parents don’t know he’s a mutant. Iceman’s parents are not home when they arrive. Wolverine walks into the kitchen and hears a sudden noise, so he unsheaths his claws. A Maine Coon cat jumps up on the counter in front of him.
The cat proceeds to lick Wolverine’s claws. Reportedly iced tea was put on the claws to make the cat actor lick them.
Just then Iceman’s parents come home, understandably confused. There is a subtle joke that when Wolverine turns to the parents you can hear his claws retract and the cat cry out at the same time. This joke was almost left on the cutting room floor but remained in the film. Iceman’s mother (Jill Teed) scoops up the cat and holds it defensively.
Iceman sits his parents down and tells the truth. His mother in particular is confused and upset. To show them he is telling the truth, Iceman freezes a cup of tea. The cat jumps up on the coffee table and licks the frozen tea.
Final Mewsings: This cat could join the X-Men as Lick Cat!
