You Only Live Once (1937)

Directed by: Fritz Lang

Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!

Synopsis: An ex-con named Eddie Taylor (Henry Fonda) tries to go straight to support his new wife Joan (Sylvia Sidney) but the law betrays them both and they end up on the lam.

Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Near the end of the film Joan is at an auto court. She stops in front of the office to buy some cigarettes from a machine. Inside the office a man (Al K. Hall) is sleeping with a tabby cat on his bed.

The sound of the coins in the machine wakes him up. He sees the woman and rolls over to go back to sleep.

The cat is pawing at him when the man sits up again and gets his glasses to have a better look at the woman. He then realizes she is the woman on the wanted poster he has hanging nearby and that there is a ten thousand dollar reward.

After Joan walks away the man leaps up, carelessly throwing the covers over the poor cat.

Final Mewsings: We hope he at least spent some of the reward money on cat treats!
