Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Mathilde (Audrey Tautou) is convinced that her husband, who fought in the trenches during World War I, somehow survived.
Cat Cattle Call: Mathilde lives with her parents in a farmhouse and has several cats which are usually seen on or around her bed.
A pair of long-haired cats are nearby as she gets a massage for her stricken legs.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): One adorable tabby cat cuddles up next to her.
The tabby cat is beside her as she reads through materials which give her clues about what happened at the Somme where her husband was last seen.
Mathilde has a nightmare which includes her tabby cat hissing.
When she awakens, she finds the oil lamp knocked over and burning with the cat beside it. She puts out the fire and scolds the cat for knocking over the lamp.
Later in a flashback we see what really happened. A man sneaked into her room to kill her and the tabby cat hissed at him, causing him to knock over the lamp.
Purr Blurs: There is also a scene where Mathilde is walking through a town. Two cats can just barely be seen on the steps in the distance.
Final Mewsings: Cats know that no good deed goes unpunished.
