Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: A Restoration comedy, this one centering on a trio of randy sailors-on-leave — Ramble (Ian Bannen), Shaftoe (Tom Bell) and Lusty (Jim Dale) — and their tedious and extended antics. But the movie is redeemed by the wonderfully over-the-top performance of Christopher Plummer as the gloriously effete Lord Foppington, ably assisted by Peter Bayliss as the horny Mr. Justice Squeezum.
Cat Cattle Call: Lecherous Reverend Bull (Peter Bull) and willing Nurse (Patricia Routledge) attempt an act of sexual congress in a room inhabited by an uncountable number of cats of multiple shapes and sizes, mostly light and dark colored, some of which lay claim to the overstuffed bed.
One white cat seems amazingly unperterbed as the bed collapses once the Reverend clambors upon it.
Their clumsy mutual assault is interrupted by Lusty, who blackmails the hypocritical reverend into performing a marriage ceremony between himself and the aggressive and aptly named Hoyden (Vanessa Howard), who is also shown petting and fondling one of the white cats.
The marriage ceremony is also attended by the numerous felines.
Final Mewsings: Once again, the never-ending battle between cats and humans for bed ownership is unresolved.
