Starring: Nitro
Directed by: Hampton Fancher
Synopsis: Quiet and amiable serial killer Vann Siegert (Owen Wilson) drifts around the country and chooses his victims from people who complain about their lives and indicate a willingness to die.
Kitty Cameo: Arriving in a new town, Vann rents a room and his new landlord soon recommends him for a job at the post office which is hiring for the Christmas season. Vann duly gets the job and on his first day at the sorting office he is sorting leaflets when he looks up at a ginger tabby cat sitting on a shelf above him.
A clerk named Ferrin (Janeane Garofalo) introduces herself and shows Vann a quicker way to sort the leaflets. She watches him try again, as does the cat. Later Vann asks her who the cat belongs to and she replies, “Oh, that’s Zip Code, she doesn’t belong to anybody. Everybody brings her food, though. That’s how I feed my dog.”
Despite other scenes at the sorting office Zip Code isn’t seen again. The end credits inform us Zip Code was played by Nitro the cat for Birds & Animals Unlimited.
Final Mewsings: Cats know to keep out of reach when a killer is about.
