Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains spoilers for this episode!
Synopsis: Sandra (Kaliko Kauahi) and Jerry (Chris Grace) are getting married and invite many of the store employees to their wedding, but Dina (Lauren Ash) is on edge, fearing reprisal from Jerry’s ex-girlfriend Carol (Irene White).
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Sandra owns a white cat named Biscuit who was mentioned but not seen in previous episodes when it was noted by Dina that Biscuit was suffering from dementia. But Biscuit does not actually appear until this episode in which she is the ring-bearer at the wedding. Biscuit is even wearing a little captain’s hat in keeping with the nautical theme of the wedding (despite the event taking place in a western bar).
Later Amy (America Ferrera) finds Dina in a standoff with Carol who is holding a cat carrier containing Biscuit.
Carol explains that she plans to throw Biscuit from a balcony so Sandra can watch the cat explode on the dance floor, but Dina keeps pointing out that the carrier is too sturdy and will protect the cat from exploding. Amy keeps telling Dina that the point is Carol shouldn’t kill the cat at all, not that her plan won’t work.
Dina continues to argue about the sturdiness of the carrier and tells Carol to look at the rubberized bottom. As Carol lifts the carrier, Dina punches her in the stomach and catches the carrier, saving Biscuit.
Later we see Biscuit snacking on some leftover wedding food before dancing with Sandra and Jerry.
Biscuit does not appear in the series again, although she is the focus of the season six episode named for her in which Sandra raises money for an operation for the cat who sadly does not make it, causing consternation when she uses the donations to have Biscuit’s ashes turned into a diamond necklace.
Biscuit was played by veteran cat actor Frosty from Good Dog Animals who previously co-starred as Larry on numerous episodes of Modern Family. The animal trainers were Jubel Chen, Guin Solomon (now Dill) and Steve Solomon.
Final Mewsings: Cats avoid dance floors for many good reasons.
