Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: A longhair ginger tabby cat named Alexander Baxter finds himself looking for a new home and the perfect owner.
Featured Feline: At first Alexander Baxter lives with an elderly former firefighter named Mr. Baxter (Edwyn Phelps). They spend their time happily together and even go to visit the nearby canal to feed the ducks.
Unfortunately Mr. Baxter needs to go into a home and sadly explains to Alexander that he’s giving him to a woman who will take care of him until he can find a new home.
Kitty Cameos: Unfortunately when Alexander arrives at the home he sees there are many other cats and animals who have been there some time without finding homes.
A black cat looks mean but Alexander stands up to him.
Alexander decides to sneak away and find a home on his own.
After resting in a garbage can, Alexander is chased up a tree by a dog.
Hitching a ride in a delivery van, the cat ends up lost in the woods.
At last Alexander comes across a newsboy (Billie Joe Wright) who takes him along on his paper route.
The boy is anxious to keep Alexander, but his parents (David Holmes and Mary Duprey) are quick to point out they only rent their apartment and no pets are allowed, so the cat has to go.
Alexander sneaks into a car and ends up taking a ride through the Sunset Car Wash!
Next he comes across a school and follows a little girl named Debbie (Nicole Marie Torrence) home.
Debbie’s mom (Dana McCarter) allows Debbie to keep the cat and they becomes fast friends.
His new home has many advantages, like being able to sneak some raw hamburger!
Alexander even fetches Debbie’s pen for her.
Both Debbie and Alexander are very happy.
But then Debbie’s mother suspects she is allergic to the cat and tells her Alexander must go.
Heartbroken, Debbie gives Alexander to her friend Melissa (Judie Feldman).
Alexander is not as happy at Melissa’s house, and Debbie is sad without Alexander. But then Debbie’s mother finds out she was not allergic to the cat after all. Only Melissa is reluctant to give Alexander back to Debbie. Melissa’s mother (Wendy Kramon) talks to her daughter about what is the right thing to do.
In the end Alexander goes back to live with Debbie and they are happy once more.
