Synopsis: In the time of the Italian Restoration of the early 19th century, aristocrat Fulvio Imbriani (Marcello Mastroianni) is released from prison a changed man. Exhausted and demoralized, he breaks faith with his past (and future) to accomplish his dreamed-of escape to a mythical America, repeatedly and unhesitatingly betraying his revolutionary ideals and still fervent compatriots, and his family and lovers.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): During his recovery from a near fatal fever, Fulvio gazes into the vibrant green eyes of a brown tabby cat.

Final Mewsings: Cats possess extraordinary healing powers.
