Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: John Constantine (Keanu Reeves) is a unique detective who uncovers and banishes demons from the realm of humans back into the pits of Hell, which he has also been known to frequent.
Featured Feline: A police detective named Angela Dodson (Rachel Weisz) is seen in her home after going to confession. When Angela has a bad dream she awakens with a start. A Russian Blue cat is on her bed.
Later when Constantine agrees to help her, they go to Angela’s apartment. Angela pours water into a pot in the sink. The cat is fidgeting at her feet, expecting something to eat.
Angela takes the pot of water into the other room and the cat follows.
John picks up the cat and Angela explains it was her sister’s and is named Duck.
Constantine says he can use him, that cat’s are “Half in and half out anyway.”
He sits down on a chair and puts his feet in the pot of water and holds Duck on his lap. He then asks Angela to leave the apartment.
Constantine holds the cat’s head in his hands and stares into the animal’s eyes. Eventually the lights flicker and the cat’s pupils narrow.
When Constantine returns from his trip to Hell, Angela opens the door and Duck runs out, not to be seen again.
Final Mewsings: Cats don’t prefer to be used as portals to Hell.
