Walt Disney Pictures
Starring: Michael J. Fox, Sally Field, Ralph Waite, Robert Hays
Directed by: David R. Ellis
Synopsis: Chance, the young American Bulldog (voiced by Michael J. Fox), Shadow, the aging Golden Retriever (voiced by Ralph Waite) and Sassy, the sarcastic Himalayan (voiced by Sally Field) are back for this Disney sequel to Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. This time the Seaver family are going on vacation to Canada and decide to play it safe and take the pets along with them. Unfortunately the animals break out of their enclosures at the San Francisco airport and make their way to the big city to find their way home once again.
Cinema Cat: The animals in this film were portrayed by different animal actors than in the first film, at least as far as we can tell. Apparently Tiki did not return to play Sassy a second time, as the animal trainers listed for this entry are not Tiki’s trainers.
We unfortunately don’t know the name of the cat (or cats, because as usual several cats were used for the making of this film) who played Sassy this time but they do an admirable job in a plot which is somewhat stretched and aimed strictly at kids. Still Sassy has some shining moments in the film.
Kitty Cameo: In one scene Sassy spots a young boy holding a kitten he calls Tiger. Sassy goes over to charm the boy into giving her some food but Chance comes running up and scares the boy, causing his mother to come out and shoo them away. Later when the boy’s house is on fire Shadow and Sassy both go into the burning building. Shadow rescues the boy while Sassy rescues Tiger the kitten!
Final Mewsings: The Seaver family probably shouldn’t take any more vacations.
