Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Dick Gordon (Neil Hamilton) is a writer who accepts a bet from his publisher that he can write a romantic novel while on a walking tour of the U.S. But an unscheduled stop at an empty motel brings him in unexpected contact with the publisher’s runaway daughter Molly (Lorin Raker) and granddaughters (June and Joy Filmer) plus some unsavory characters.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): One of the characters which Dick meets in the motel is a black cat who is sitting on a windowsill.
“Well, Grandma, what big eyes you’ve got!” Dick comments before picking up the cat. From this point on he calls the cat Grandma and carries her with him as he explores the house.
Dick sets Grandma down on the fireplace as he starts to make a fire.
Dick then wonders where he can find some blankets. Grandma is sitting by a door and meowing, so Dick goes inside and pulls some covers from a bed, exposing Molly and her two young daughters.
Grandma is next seen sitting beside Molly on a couch as she and Dick share their stories, at least the stories they decide to tell each other, since each has something to hide.
Grandma is seen again on the couch in another scene.
Later Dick is reading part of his new story to Grandma on his bed. The cat seems less than impressed.
Dick carries Grandma downstairs and the two granddaughters take her and ask Dick to make up a story about their lives together. It is clear the girls want Dick and their mother to get together.
Unfortunately some unsavory characters in disguise have also arrived at the hotel looking for something. The girls sneak out, bringing Grandma with them.
The girls come back in later wearing the discarded disguises of the bad guys and still holding Grandma.
Final Mewsings: Cats usually stay in abandoned hotels hoping for some peace and quiet!
Many thanks to Ted Davis for letting us know about the cat in this film!
