Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Oscar nominated animated short about a married couple who are torn apart after an unspeakable tragedy.
Cartoon Cat: The couple are left heartbroken and disconnected after the death of their teenage daughter. The family pet, a black cat, follows the woman upstairs as she carries a basket of laundry.
The mother cannot bring herself to enter her daughter’s bedroom.
Later a soccer ball rolls into the girl’s room and bumps a record player, starting the music. The cat rests near the familiar music.
The shadows of the couple represent their unexpressed feelings while the memories of the girl appear to the cat.
This is a beautiful and terribly sad short that must be seen to be fully appreciated. It can currently be viewed on Netflix.
Final Mewsings: Cats know how to stay connected with those who are gone.
