Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: A Russian animated version of the classic fairy tale finds Grandma’s cat coming to the aid of Red Riding Hood against the Big Bad Wolf.
Cartoon Cat: The wolf is in the woods when Grandma’s cat, who is delivering a letter to Red Riding Hood, comes along.
The wolf takes chase but the cat climbs a tree to escape.
Only to find he has lost the letter! The wolf finds the letter and reads it quickly, learning that Grandma is asking Red Riding Hood to come visit her. The wolf replaces the letter in the envelope and the cat finds it and finishes the delivery.
After encountering Red Riding Hood in the woods, the wolf runs ahead to Grandma’s house where she and the cat have just settled down to some knitting.
The wolf enters the home and tries to attack Grandma but the cat tangles up the wolf’s legs in yarn.
Grandma hides in a clock and the cat leaps to a high shelf as the wolf disguises himself as Grandma and greets Red Riding Hood. The cat watches this with alarm.
Grabbing a pepper shaker, the cat flicks the spice at the wolf and makes him sneeze.
Red Riding Hood hides under the couch as the cat dons her hat and shoes and grabs the hand of a clock to use as a sword to fight the wolf.
The cat thinks he has vanquished the wolf but the beast leaps up again.
This time the cat is too smart and tricks the wolf into leaping into a barrel of tomatoes which he sends rolling down the hill.
The cat is rewarded by dancing with Red Riding Hood and then receiving a saucer of milk.
Final Mewsings: All fairy tales should contain cats!
