by Linda Kay
Directed by: Dave Fleischer, Willard Bowsky
Synopsis: Betty Boop decides to run away from home and her friend Bimbo joins her. But they soon regret their decision when they stumble upon a cave full of ghosts and other fiends singing Cab Calloway’s popular song.
Cartoon Cats: Note the logo of the Fleischer Studios’ Talkartoon logo. The O’s are made to look like singing faces with a dog and cat’s bodies added.
During the ghostly singing, a ghost cat is lying on her side. It is then revealed she is feeding four kittens.
In rather disturbing imagery (very common for these Fleischer cartoons) the kittens suck their mama dry.
The mama cat then offers them a bottle which they share.
They kittens drink all the milk and become fat while their mother lies exhausted.
Later when Betty Boop and Bimbo flee from the cave they are chased by the many ghosts, including the cat.
Final Mewsings: We don’t even want to know how the mama cat and kittens became ghosts.
