Synopsis: Légionnaire Tom Brown (Gary Cooper) falls for cabaret singer Amy Jolly (Marlene Dietrich) but various circumstances cause their future happiness to hang in the balance.

Purr Blur: In one scene a black cat is seen outside the grating of Amy’s room. It stands for a moment and then walks away.

Director Josef von Sternberg was known for including black cats in many of his films.
