Universal Pictures
Starring: Lon Chaney, Mary Philbin, Norman Kerry
Directed by: Rupert Julian
Synopsis: Christine Daae (Mary Philbin) is a young, Parisian opera singer whose career is being helped (in dark and dastardly ways) by a mysterious “ghost” known as The Phantom (Lon Chaney). But she’s horrified when he ultimately demands her love in return for his help.
Kitty Cameo: Near the beginning of the film we see Florine Papillon (Snitz Edwards) down in one of the cellars. A black cat enters from above and makes its way down the stone stairway behind him.
Near the end of the film when an angry mob storms the cellars the cat can be seen again running down the steps ahead of them.
Final Mewsings: It’s only logical that cats know the way into catacombs.
