Directed by: Raja Gosnell

Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!

Synopsis: The live-action update of the popular animated kids’ series finds the gang on a mysterious island resort trying to solve a mystery.

Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): On the plane ride over to the island, Scooby is disguised as “grandma” to ride in the cabin with everyone. At one point he moves from the seat next to Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) over to the seat next to Freddy (Fred Prinze Jr.) and Velma (Linda Cardellini). As Scooby walks down the aisle he passes a seat with a beautiful long-haired white cat sitting in a woman’s lap.

After Scooby sits down, he smells the cat and is shocked. The cat appears to gulp at being spotted although it looks a bit like a hiccup.

Scooby starts barking at the cat, causing the cat to hiss. This draws some strange looks from the other passengers.

The cat eventually runs away and Scooby takes chase. The scene ends here with the plane shown veering roughly to one side as Shaggy begs grandma not to eat the kitty. In the director’s commentary on the DVD he explains how the sequence was originally longer and a real dog was brought in to chase the cat over the seats and passengers, but eventually they decided this was not going to look good enough to work and was dropped. The actors also remembered the scene and that the real dog was brought in to scare the cat actor into running (and probably hissing as well). It would appear that up to three different cats were possibly used to play this part.

Final Mewsings: Cats don’t want to be bothered by computer generated dogs.
