Directed by: Josephine Decker
Synopsis: A young couple move in with noted writer Shirley Jackson (Elisabeth Moss) and her professor husband Stanley Hyman (Michael Stuhlbarg), leading to some interesting relations between them.
Kitty Cameo: A black cat is seen several times throughout the film. First the cat is running down the stairs.
Later the cat knocks over a vase on Shirley’s desk.
And finally the cat is sitting on the floor. But is this the same cat? While the cat actor used for the film might have been the same, the story goes that Jackson owned up to six cats at one time, either black or dark gray, which she allowed people to think were her familiars, since she purported to be a witch. One story states that because her husband was near sighted he could not tell the cats apart and didn’t realize how many there were.
Final Mewsings: Cats and temperamental writers like upsetting things.
Many thanks to @femalehysteric for letting us know about the cat in this film!
