The Day of the Locust (1975)

Directed by: John Schlesinger

Synopsis: Based on the novel by Nathanael West. Tod Hackett (William Atherton) is an aspiring film art director who falls for his flamboyant but troubled neighbor Faye (Karen Black).

Kitty Cameos: Tod and Faye both live in bungalow-style apartments in a complex known as the San Bernardino Arms. Throughout the film several cats are seen in and around the courtyard of this complex. The first is a tabby cat being removed from a row of theater seats by an older woman.

The woman then sits down and is petting a tabby cat (only this one has white markings) when the little boy known as Adore (Jackie Earle Haley) taps into the scene.

Later a ginger tabby is sitting on the steps outside Tod’s apartment as he exits. He motions to nudge the cat aside with his foot as the cat moves away.

Later Tod passes a tabby and white cat as he crosses the complex.
