Directed by: Charles Chaplin
Synopsis: The Tramp as a lone prospector (Charlie Chaplin) ventures into the Klondike to look for gold and falls for a dance hall girl (Georgia Hale).
Purr Blur: As the Tramp is dancing with the girl, his baggy pants keep falling down. As they near a table, the Tramp grabs a piece of rope and ties it around his waist to hold the pants up. What he doesn’t realize is there is a dog tied to the other end of the rope and the dog now follows him all around the dance floor. Suddenly a small tabby cat jumps onto the floor (or rather is catapulted there by someone off screen).
The dog spots the cat, who runs forward out of frame. Only the top of the cat can be seen.
The cat eventually runs off on the other side of the screen and the pursuing dog pulls the Tramp off his feet, making him the laughing stock of everyone around.
Final Mewsings: This is why cats avoid dance halls!
Many thanks to Jon R. Kennedy for letting us know about the cat in this film.
