Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: A young couple, Valerie (Jennifer Daniel) and Harry Spalding (Ray Barrett) move into his deceased brother’s Cornish home and find they have lots of questions about his death, not to mention the death of others in the stand-offish village.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): When the couple arrives they have a black cat named Katie in a carrier which Valerie carries to their new cottage.
We don’t see Katie much in her new home, but suddenly she goes missing. She has been taken by their neighbor, a mysterious Malay (Marne Maitland) who works for a Dr. Franklyn (Noel Willman). The Malay offers the cat to Dr. Franklin’s daughter, Anna (Jacqueline Pearce).
Anna begs for the kitten and the Malay finally consents to give it to her. She carries Katie to her bed and cuddles her.
Later Dr. Franklyn finds Anna in the process of tying a note around Katie’s neck. He takes the kitten away from her and tosses Katie onto a nearby chair.
Still later, Harry finds Katie locked in a cage in Dr. Franklyn’s home, along with many other animals. At this point one might worry because it would seem the animals are being kept as food for the reptile creature.
At the end of the film, Dr. Franklyn is about to kill the creature when he sees the animals caged nearby (nowhere near where they were caged before). He pauses to release the animals from their cages, including Katie.
There is a fight and a lot of confusion as the mansion catches on fire. As Valerie and Harry flee from the burning building, Valerie spots Katie in a corner and scoops her up, rushing her outside to safety.
Final Mewsings: While we appreciate the animals being set free, maybe kill the creature that threatens them before doing so?
Many thanks to Ted Davis for letting us know about the cat in this film!
