Synopsis: The Pink Panther diamond has once again been stolen and Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Peter Sellers) is called in to catch the perpetrator. Convinced that the notorious “Phantom” is behind the theft, Clouseau sets about exposing the thief with predictably chaotic results.
Purr Blur: Entering his apartment, Clouseau immediately finds himself under attack from his manservant Cato (Burt Kwouk) as per Clouseau’s instructions to keep him on his toes. During the fight we cut to Clouseau’s neighbour (Molly Maureen) in her armchair watching television. Just visible on the chair with her is a white cat.
The fight is interrupted by a phone call from Dreyfus telling Clouseau to report to the station. As Clouseau prepares to leave there is a knock at the door and upon opening it Clouseau is handed a bomb. He and Cato stare at it momentarily before, with a cry of alarm, Clouseau throws the bomb towards the wall of the neighbouring apartment. The view switches to the other side of the wall where the neighbour’s television watching is rudely interrupted by the wall exploding, causing her armchair to jump into the air, along with the surprised / terrified cat who beats a hasty retreat.
Final Mewsings: Just as well they cast a white cat as the shock was probably enough to turn any cat’s fur white!!
