Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: During the early days of WWII, Pulitzer Prize winning (!?) foreign correspondent Robert Kittredge (Bob Hope) pulls a boner by reporting that Germany would not attack Russia. When the inverse occurs, Kittredge is called back home to face the music. Once Kittredge is stateside, he becomes entangled with a triumvirate of Fifth Columnists (Otto Preminger, Eduardo Ciannelli and Phillip Ahn), whose plot to cripple the United States’ war effort centers on a mysterious missing notebook. With the considerable assistance of Christina Hill (Dorothy Lamour), his loyal and long-suffering girl Friday, our man Kittredge redeems himself by foiling the conspiracy.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Returning from Russia in disgrace, Robert enters the Washington DC office of Amalgamated News and is either ignored or high-hatted by his coworkers. In a last effort to find a sympathetic friend, Robert enthusiastically greets Jackson, the office cat (tuxedo model), which promptly shuns him and pads away. Robert quickly responds: “From now on you can catch your own mice!”
Final Mewsings: Disappointed cats can put you in the doghouse.
