Pets! A Canadian Cameo (1930)

British Pathé

Synopsis: Silent newsreel footage highlights Pet Day in Toronto, Canada, with a parade of animals and their owners.

Reality Cats: Dogs are the focus of much of the newsreel segment, but a tabby cat dressed in knitted baby clothes apparently won first prize in the Toronto Humane Society Pet Parade.

There is a possible black cat in a pram with a dog but it is too difficult to confirm it is actually a feline. Plus we can’t help but mention how sad it is that a man is seen grabbing his dog by the muzzle and slapping at him in one scene, at a Humane Society Parade, no less!

Final Mewsings: The cat deserved first prize for putting up with that outfit!
