Synopsis: A non-musical version of the opera Carmen finds soldier Don José Lizarabengoa (Glenn Ford) destroying his life all for the love of the beautiful gypsy Carmen (Rita Hayworth).

Kitty Cameo: The film’s tragic ending is foreshadowed when Carmen is rushing to meet her lover and stops suddenly as a black cat crosses her path.

At the very end of the film, the same cat is seen coming down the steps as The End flashes on the screen.
