The Norliss Tapes (1973)

by Ted Davis

Directed by: Dan Curtis

Synopsis: When recently widowed Ellen Cort (Angie Dickinson) is menaced by the energetic reanimated blue-faced corpse of late husband James (Nick Dimitri), she calls on crack investigative writer David Norliss (Roy Thinnes) for help. In the course of his investigations, Norliss discovers that, to gain immortality, James committed to an unholy bargain with a second rate Egyptian demon, which causes a lot of problems for everyone involved in this clumsily directed, stitched-together TV movie pilot.

Purr Blur: The obligatory female victim, salesgirl Sarah Dobkins (Jane Dulo), on her way to her car after leaving work, is spooked by a harmless looking little tabby cat catapulted out of a tree above her in Spring Loaded Cat fashion. In fact it appears to be a stuffed cat tossed from the tree, or at least we hope it was since it bounces off the concrete. Real or not, the hurtling kitty can boast an impressive Poor Cat Screech. We do get a brief shot of a real cat looking perplexed before bolting.

Final Mewsings: You’d yowl too if you were thrown into this pathetic production.
