Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: The Marquis of Buckminster, commonly known as Reggie (Roland Young), thwarts his grandmother’s wishes for him to marry even though it may mean his being cut off from her fortune.
Cat Burglars (Scene Stealers): On top of the list of potential wives for Reggie are the Roxbury twins, Lady Rose Mary (Joan Gardner) and Lady Mary Rose (Wendy Barrie). One difference between the twins is Rose Mary keeps terrier dogs while Mary Rose keeps long-haired gray cats. The cats are first seen in Mary Rose’s room as she kisses one of the cat’s kittens.
Once the twins leave their rooms, the cats sneak out and head downstairs to a library or den. The dogs are not far behind.
Once in the room a terrible ruckus of barks and meows brings the household staff running. As the master of the house shouts and yells, the staff tries to get control of the situation, pulling cats off clocks and mantles and keeping them from swatting and hissing at the dogs.
Eventually the staff get the four dogs and four cats in hand and leave to return them to their respective rooms.
Later in the stables, Rose Mary and Mary Rose are spooning with their fiancees Bimbo (John Loder) and Tootles (Maurice Evans). Cats with kittens are nearby.
Some of the kittens are playing in a basket in the foreground as the couples talk.
Final Mewsings: Cats handle both romantic and tumultuous relationships with ease.
