Young Widow (1946)

Synopsis: Joan Kenwood (Jane Russell) is a World War II widow trying to adjust to life without the love of her life.

Kitty Cameos: Joan returns to the family farm where she and her husband were happy. Before she arrives, Aunt Cissie (Connie Gilchrist) awakens Aunt Emeline (Cora Witherspoon) to help birth a calf. A tabby cat is lying on Emeline’s bed when Cissie enters, then runs away.

When Joan arrives, the tabby cat runs down the stairs as she starts to climb. “Kitty!” Joan cries happily, but she is then distracted by a boy who enters. The cat runs behind Joan and disappears.

Later Joan moves in with her friend Peg Martin (Penny Singleton). As they are walking through the apartment, Peg has to take a jump to avoid running into a tiny tabby kitten in the middle of the floor. “Whoops! Look out Kitty Cat!” she says.

Joan stops to pick up the kitten. “Hello,” Joan cooes, “You’re a cute little kitten.”

As she cuddles the kitten she says, “Oh for heaven’s sake, Peg, don’t you ever dry clean this animal?” “That’s not an animal, that’s an obstacle course,” Peg answers.

Joan sets the kitten down and it is not mentioned or seen again.
