by Linda Kay
Directed by: Werner Schroeter
Synopsis: Rife with symbolism, this film examines the fragile psyche of a woman (Isabelle Huppert) torn between her husband Malina (Mathieu Carrière) and her lover Ivan (Can Togay).
Kitty Cameos: In one scene the woman is doing an interview while Malina appears with two large longhair cats, one white and one cream colored.

He tosses the cats into the woman’s office.

In the next scene she is chasing them around her office. When she catches them, she throws them out into the hallway.

Later Malina is holding the white kitty and says the cats have to go, tossing the poor cat to the floor. The woman assures him the cats will be gone in a month but he points out she said the same thing the month before. Apparently the cats belong to Ivan’s children. Luckily the cats are no where in sight when the apartment is bathed in fire for most of the second half of the film.

Final Mewsings: Cats aren’t into symbolism, especially if it means they get tossed around.
