Dover Farmers (1942)

by Linda Kay

British Pathé

Synopsis: Newsreel footage focuses on the farm owned by Gilbert Mitchell and his wife which carried on producing food for Britain even though they were located near the Dover coast known as Hellfire Corner where they came under frequent bombardment during World War II.

Reality Cat: Mrs. Mitchell is shown feeding the poultry as the narrator explains there are “200 chickens and one cat, but never a cross word. They don’t eat the same thing.” The longhair tabby nonchalantly wanders through the gathering chickens.
